Welcome to the W.E.R.C. Website!
(A website created by 7th and 8th grade students;
Mrs. Bertels, advisor)

The W.E.R.C. program provides a variety of enriching experiences for 7th and 8th grade gifted students.  Each week students' schedules are available in the W.E.R.C. Room.  This schedule gives the day and times of meetings held in the W.E.R.C. Room.  Students are asked to stop by any time after Thursday at noon to pick up their schedule for the following week.

Stock Market Game
Over 40 students (and even a few teachers) signed up for our stock market game.  Have you checked your stocks lately?  The market has had MANY ups and downs.  A few students won't buy any stocks at all.  Did they hide their money under the bed?  Are they the smartest of us all?  The game ends in May so don't forget to check the markets and do some buying or selling (or maybe you want to just BUY AND HOLD!)

MODEL UN -
Students from 8th grade to H.S. will participate in the annual Model UN meeting in March.  For 2 days there will be much debate and discussion, special guest speakers.  They will prepare speeches and presented their resolutions.  Each student (delegate) will speak at some point during the meetings. On the last day, we will eat at a nice restaurant to celebrate all we have learned and experienced during the 2 days. Come join us!

Mrs. Bertels

   Our teacher, Mrs. Bertels, was recently honored as Master Teacher in Kansas.  She was treated to a day at Emporia State University with a banquet that evening.  She was also recognized for her Master Teacher award by the State Senate and by a proclamation by Topeka Mayor Bill Bunton at a City Council meeting.  Mayor Bunton read a proclamation that declared February 27, 2008 Alice Bertels Day!  Way to go, Mrs. Bertels!
